After the premiere of Age of Wonders 4, a 4X fantasy turn-based strategy game, which saw the light of day in May 2023, the developers from Triumph Studios began its post-release development. Over the course of several months, they regularly published new expansions for their game. The add-on described here, titled Age of Wonders 4: Archon Prophecy, is the seventh consecutive DLC for AoW 4.

New features in the expansion

Age of Wonders 4: Archon Prophecy primarily brings a new culture, story lands, as well as tomes, a hero class, and units of wild nature.

Architects - the new culture

The add-on gives us access to Architects capable of erecting huge monuments in cities. They can strengthen the economy of our empire and provide us access to various bonuses. The expansion also introduces two new forms, namely the Elysian representing the heavens in all their majesty, and the Ancient associated with more ominous places, which is reflected in their appearance.

Fictional lands and features of prophecies

The DLC also brings two previously unavailable lands, namely the Rings of Emnora, where the fortress of the titular archons is located, and the ancient Cliffs of Sordunn, struggling with the horror of the umbral abyss.

Tomes

The add-on also gives us four new tomes. The Tome of Virtue allows us to bless the armies with righteousness and increase their battle strength, the Tome of Prophecies provides us with access to prophetic spells and signs, the Tome of the Revenant allows us to harness the energy of those who have already passed away, while the Tome of the Archon allows us to summon powerful heavenly allies, as well as promote our units to the titular rank.

Hero class and nature units

In addition to this, in the expansion we get access to a new hero class. The Battlesaint can both support his subordinates and fight on the front line. On his path stand new units of wild nature, namely celestial animals (griffon and celestial griffon), archon representatives (elite emissaries of heaven) and revenant archons (being the resurrected "shadows" of fallen warriors).

Other features

The finishing touches include minor map updates, new music tracks (signed by Michiel van den Bos), previously unavailable mounts (chariot and griffon), as well as a thematic skin for the interface.
