Age of Wonders Video Game Series

Turn-based strategy series, developed by Dutch Triumph Studios. The Age of Wonders brand is sometimes considered the "spiritual successor" of the series Master of Magic.

Lennart Sasa, co-owner of Triumph Studios, is considered the father of the series. First Age of Wonders hit stores in 1999 (in Europe the game wasn't released until 2000). The title, inspired by, among other strategies Master of Magic and Heroes of Might & Magic, didn't achieve great box office success, but it was to the liking of lovers of classic "turn-based" games. For the sequel - Age of Wonders II: The Wizard's Throne - players had to wait three years. The developers also had an expansion planned, which finally saw the light of day in 2003 as a standalone game - Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic. Not counting the anthology released in 2010, development of the series was put on hold for nearly 11 years. The full-fledged third installment of the series - Age of Wonders III - was released in 2014; its artistic and commercial success, however, meant that the brand finally established its presence on the market. Nevertheless, the creation of another title under the banner of Age of Wonders took the developers more than five years. In 2019, a spin-off of the series appeared on store shelves, namely. Age of Wonders: Planetfall. Full-fledged Age of Wonders 4 on the other hand, went on sale in 2023.
