The sixth expansion for the 4X turn-based strategy from Triumph Studios. In Age of Wonders 4: Giant Kings we can play as the giant-king and lead one of the elder giant clans to domination. This DLC also features new locations, new types of enemies and new gameplay mechanics.
Age of Wonders 4: Giant Kings is the sixth expansion to the 4X turn-based strategy game titled Age of Wonders 4, originally released in 2023. The add-on was developed by the Triumph Studios team, which oversees the development of the series. Its release was handled by Paradox Interactive, the company that manages the brand.
The biggest novelty introduced in Age of Wonders 4: Giant Kings is the ability to become a giant-king and take control of the elder giants fighting to restore their power over the Astral Sea.
The add-on allows us to lead one of the clans, enabling the use of the item forge and terraforming of the map from the game, including forming mountains or flattening peaks, or freezing vast areas.
The expansion features a crystal habitat. It is home to the souls of ancient giants, as well as the Chair of the Council, whose favor we should seek to unlock the store with unique artifacts, magical items, or skills.
The game world has also been expanded with hand-crafted regions and special zones, which are waiting to be incorporated into the borders of our empire. Here we will also find new features of the region, led by the Legends of Myrrida. They contain story areas and events referring to giants, within which we can acquire artifacts and other unique rewards.
Additionally, the land is traversed by merchants offering equipment and abilities for the hero, mounts, or the possibility of discovering parts of the map. We can trade with them or attack them to forcibly take their goods. Besides them, units of litorines (crystal beings) and beasts guarding access to ancient wonders (led by two new ones) are present in the world.
The DLC features books that allow us to successively give our provinces an underground appearance and take advantage of special bonuses (the book of underground depths), as well as transform our subordinates into beings drawing energy from the earth (the book of geomancy). In addition to this, a previously unavailable template of the land appears here, a special interface skin and 4 songs composed by Michiel van den Bos.
Age of Wonders 4: Giant Kings is a non-standalone expansion, so it requires the base version of the game Age of Wonders 4.
