A tactical strategy with roguelike mechanics, set in the universe of the popular sci-fi TV series. In Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes, we command a fleet of human spaceships running away from the hostile robotic Cylons. This involves making difficult choices and accepting permanent losses.
Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes is a hybrid of RTS and turn-based strategies, created by the independent studio Alt Shift. It is set in the universe of the titular sci-fi TV series. The game focuses on battles in space, from which we never emerge unscathed.
As commanders of a fleet of space ships, we engage in a battle for survival against a numerically superior army of rebellious robots called Cylons. This requires us to make a series of difficult choices. They may involve allocating valuable resources, solving problems in the fleet, or dealing with conflicting interests of factions on board.
The gameplay in Scattered Hopes proceeds in two phases - turn-based and in real time with an active pause. It starts with preparations, during which we organize our team, gather resources and try to find as much scrap for upgrades and fuel for teleportation as possible, before the Cylons appear.
When setting the priorities for our crew's actions, we are preparing for the inevitable battle. In the face of it, we deploy fighters from our hangars and direct them in real-time battles. We strive to minimize damage to our central ship and utilize its onboard defensive systems against the most serious threats.
The goal is to survive the attacks until our fleet completes the calculations for the light speed jump, which will allow us to escape to another sector of the galaxy. The battles in Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes always end with some losses and there is also a permadeath mechanic. New attempts may offers new lessons. Tactical options expand as we unlock additional squadrons, weapons, traits, as well as meta-upgrades, which come in handy in future sessions.
In the face of rebellion from robots created to make people's lives easier, Admiral Adama calls Captain Gunstar to join Battlestar Galactica. The commander of the surviving fleet is leading the escape from the destructive offensive of the Cylons.
The visual design of Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes combines rawness and clarity, incorporating elements of pixel art.

Game Ratings for Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes Video Game.
MonsterVine: 4 / 5 by Shannon P. Drake
There’s solid gameplay, but it’s a grind to find anything encouraging when everything is going wrong all the time, which does fit the IP and experience. And life in general, I suppose. So say we all.
DualShockers: 8 / 10 by Maddie Fisher
Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes feels like a genuine, honest extension of the cult favorite 2004 television show. It perfectly captures the dark, unrelenting tone of hopelessness that the TV show became known for. The hectic space combat has a fun, brisk pace to it that never overstays its welcome, and it is brilliantly balanced by more human moments with the crew on your ship. It doesn't necessarily reinvent the wheel for the roguelite genre, but if you're a fan of the franchise, this is going to be a game that will make you quite happy.
TheBigBois: 8.5 / 10 by Zachary Holmes
Is the best the franchise has ever felt in a video game format, and a genuinely strong roguelite regardless of its licence. Alt Shift understands both the source material and the genre well enough to make something that serves both masters effectively. The procedural narrative events, the survival-focused combat, and the meaty progression system combine into an experience that’s far more than a branded reskin. The lack of new lore, the long run times, and the absent camera controls hold it back from greatness. But for BSG fans and strategy roguelite veterans who’ve been waiting for this exact combination, Scattered Hopes delivers on the promise. So say we all.
