Beast: False Prophet PC

Beast is a grim tactical RPG, inspired by Carpathian legends story-wise and Gothic style visuals-wise. It was developed by the Warsaw-based studio False Prophet.

The game runs on the Unreal Engine 5 and features around 40 hours of playtime.

Plot

The game's protagonist is Anton Sabbados, a veteran presumed dead for years, returning to his Carpathian homeland after a decade of slavery. He finds the land ruined, tormented by bandits and a deadly plague of unknown origin.

The mysterious prophet-king, Lurius, calls upon him to fight the plague. Anton thus gathers some loyal soldiers and sets out on a journey to restore the land back to glory. He must also face his haunting memories and inner demons.

Mechanics

Beast has us commanding soldiers in turn-based tactical battles. We control our troops individually, ordering them to move, use items (grenades or potions), attack in melee or at range. The characters' passive abilities have an impact on the outcome of combat as well.

We'll face and bloodily dispatch many different enemies, such as bandits, mutants and monsters. As a last resort, we can tip the scales back in our favor through the Beast System, unleashing the inner monster within the protagonist. This gives us temporary access to truly mighty abilities, but risks our squad's sanity.

This mechanic works outside of combat as well, resulting in moral dilemmas during the narrative segments. The game changes depending on whether we succumb to the demonic temptation or resist it.
