Wartales PC

Wartales is an RPG with strategy game elements. The project was developed by an independent team Shiro Games - the authors of the warmly welcomed Northgard.

Plot

In Wartales we find ourselves in a fictional world inspired by medieval Europe. One hundred years ago a plague led to the downfall of the Edoran Empire, which dominated over other countries. Since then, the former superpower has plunged into chaos, law and honor have long become meaningless slogans, and people will stop at nothing to survive. To make matters worse, the inhabitants still have to deal with this terrible disease, which does not kill the infected, but causes them a veritable wolf's hunger for meat. If not satisfied in time, its victims gradually lose their senses and become something like zombies.

During the game we play the protagonist, who, like others, tries to survive in this world full of dangers. The hero becomes a leader of a group of daredevils and travels with them through the land, taking various jobs.

Mechanics

In Wartales the action was shown from the top-down view. The game gives us a vast open world. We can find there both gloomy wastelands and abandoned mines, as well as almost idyllic villages, where life is relatively peaceful. Travelling through this land, we perform various tasks. Although there is no shortage of noble missions involving, for example, the defense of the simple (and defenseless) inhabitants, in the pursuit of money we also often have to carry out orders from various types of the dark star.

As we progress we recruit companions, each of whom has individual skills and preferred type of weapon. With time, we develop both the protagonist and his team; we can also increase the combat potential of the protagonist and his mercenaries by equipping them with increasingly better equipment (which we produce or modify using an extensive crafting system). However, to live a good life (or at least as good as the circumstances allow), we must also take care of the morale of our team. For this reason it is important to constantly expand and improve our camp, which is a kind of command center for us.

Confrontations with enemies play a big role in this game. Skirmishes take place in turn-based mode, and what's equally important during them, as the proper use of the abilities of individual team members, is their placement on the battlefield. On our way we face both hostile people and wild animals, such as wolves or bears. From time to time we have to fight with the champions - a kind of bosses who can perform several attacks per turn.

Game modes

Wartales allows only to play solo. A special mode was prepared for more experienced players, in which the game status is saved automatically and only in two cases - before the start of the battle and before entering the village.

Technical aspects

The graphic design of Wartales has been kept in a realistic style.
