Black Powder Red Earth is a FPP network shooting game by the little-known company Echelon Software. The plot of the programme was located on Mars in the near future (2043). Players take on the role of mercenary soldiers, performing tasks and contracts financed by a number of corporations. We fight in well-trained and equipped teams, clashing in special arenas, capable of accommodating up to 16 players at the same time. For each victory we receive a certain amount of money in virtual currency, for which we can buy heavier, stronger armour, equip ourselves with more advanced tactical accessories, buy stronger weapons or upgrade the weapons we already have (over 100 extras in total). Our activities are actively monitored by the online ranking of players, and achieving a sufficiently high position in the ladder allows us to create clans, gain certain privileges for ourselves and the whole team, and even open our own sales company with various accessories and combat supporters, which can bring us quite good, virtual profits.
In the production of Black Powder Red Earth there was a harmonious team of developers, consisting of former members of American special forces and private security agencies, serving in 32 countries of the world (e.g. Iraq and Afghanistan). Thanks to this, the program is characterized by a relatively high level of realism and a convincing gameplay atmosphere. The most interesting solution, however, is the introduction of a global network of home pages of players and the implementation of a very extensive, free market of items. Both of these components are equipped with an interface strongly resembling the largest and most visited by players services of this type (e.g. Myspace, Orkut, Amazon, eBay). What's more, players have the possibility to use these attractions using ordinary web browsers, without having to run the program itself. This gives a lot of freedom in administering the built-in tools and allows even less experienced players to quickly join the game.
From the technical point of view the game looks quite impressive. The visuals are driven by the modern and famous Unreal Engine 3 engine, which has made it much easier for creators to create realistic, atmospheric graphics.
