In 2024, the British studio Revolution Software released a remastered version of the first installment of the Broken Sword series, titled Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars - Reforged. It received such a warm reception that the team led by Charles Cecil decided to tackle the second installment of the series. The result of this endeavor is the Broken Sword: The Smoking Mirror - Reforged described here.
Broken Sword: The Smoking Mirror - Reforged stands out from the original primarily due to its thoroughly refreshed graphics. The creators allow us to freely switch between the classic and modern visual versions. Additionally, the audio layer has been improved.
That's not all, as the developers have also introduced an alternative gameplay mode. Besides the traditional mode, there is a story mode where subtle hints assist us in solving puzzles.
Broken Sword: The Smoking Mirror - Reforged is a classic point-and-click adventure game. We control George for the majority of the game, viewing events from various perspectives. There are also opportunities to play as Nico. Our protagonists explore locations, engage in conversations, and solve puzzles that involve using items and interacting with the environment. Clues gathered along the way help us face the challenges we encounter.
In Broken Sword: The Smoking Mirror - Reforged we play as an American named George Stobbart, accompanied by a French journalist named Nico Collard. The duo uncovers a dangerous Mayan secret involving ancient artifacts (including the titular mirror) and black magic. Our protagonists follow its trail, leading them on an adventure through various parts of the world, from Europe, through the Caribbean, to Central America.
