Release Date: August 2, 1999
An MMO set in a fantasy world, inspired by the Celtic mythology and H.P. Lovecraft's works. Dark Ages is a free-to-play game and it became popular again in 2025, after being forgotten for many years. We can play as various characters and our actions can affect the shape of the entire game world.
In 1999, the South Korean company Nexon released an MMORPG titled Dark Ages. The game was loosely based on Celtic mythology, while the source of inspiration for its American version were H.P. Lovecraft's works. The title is distributed in a free-to-play model with microtransactions.
Over the years, the game has changed ownership, and its development has been handed over to KRU Interactive. Although it was almost completely forgotten over time, it experienced a kind of renaissance in 2025 thanks to video materials published by a YouTuber known as Bind.
In Dark Ages we watch the action in an isometric view. The developers allow us to choose the class of our character, and then we can plunge into the whirl of adventures, during which we often have to reach for a weapon. The game allows for the elimination of enemies controlled by AI (within the PvE mode), and also for engaging in skirmishes with other players (as part of PvP). As we progress, we develop our character by improving their specific skills.
The game world has been divided into locations, among which we will find both wild hunting grounds (access to them is determined by our experience level), as well as cities like Rucesion or Mileth.
A characteristic feature of Dark Ages is the ability for players to hold political roles and directly or indirectly influence the game world. By assuming a certain role, we can make decisions related to politics, economy, law or events taking place in a fantasy land, and even pass judgments on the characters of other participants in the game.
Dark Ages has pixel art graphics maintained in a manga style.
