F1 23 is an officially licensed Formula 1 racing simulator and the fourteenth main installment in a series by Codemasters. It is also the third game in the series published by Electronic Arts following its acquisition of the developer.

Plot

The game reintroduces the cutscene heavy story mode, Braking Point, first added in F1 2021 and absent in 22.

The player joins the fictional Konnersport Racing Team, also featuring the previous protagonists and former rivals: Aiden Jackson and Devon Butler. They're joined by Devon's sister, Callie Mayer - the first woman to win the F2 World Championship, now having her sights set on repeating this achievement in F1.

Gameplay

The gameplay in the F1 series is a mix of simulation and arcade. As in previous installments, the main feature of the game is the career mode, in which we join an actual, real-life team participating in the 2023 season, or lead our own team.

The player can control authentic F1 and F2 class racing cars, competing on tracks included in the season's calendar. These include two new facilities: Las Vegas Street Circuit in USA and Losail Internation Circuit in Qatar. The first one is just making its debut in Formula 1 and was included in the game before the actual Grand Prix took place on it.

F1 23 makes some tweaks to the driving system, granting the cars better traction, making their behavior more predictable and increasing the precision of gamepad controls. Races are made more authentic through the reimplementation of red flags, signifying the race's interruption and necessitating pulling over to the pit. The game also introduces a new, 35% race length setting.

Game modes

F1 23 is playable in singleplayer and multiplayer. The latter is either online or on the split screen.

Another new feature is the F1 World module connected to all the game's content. Within it we can start different game modes (career, multiplayer, time trials and others) and use the new progression system - leveling up unlocks new competitions, challenges, car parts and teammates upgrades, while completing daily and weekly events rewards us with seasonal prizes, such as paintjobs, uniforms and helmets. Our driving is also evaluated in terms of fairness and safety.

Technology

The visuals of F1 23 resemble those of the series' previous installments. The game introduces a new color coding system, meant to make the visuals look more authentic. Just like F1 22, the game supports virtual reality goggles, though only on the PC.
