Field of Glory: Kingdoms is a large-scale turn-based strategy (aka grand strategy). It is a part of a series launched in 2009, which in turn is based on the board game Field of Glory. The project was developed by AGEod studio, specializing in this genre, and it was published by Slitherine.

Plot

Field of Glory: Kingdoms takes us on a journey to the Middle Ages. The action begins in 1054, just after The Great Schism, the break of Christianity into Eastern and Western Churches. The title allows us to become the leader of a chosen country in Europe, Africa or Middle East and direct its fate over two centuries.

Game mechanics

Field of Glory: Kingdoms starts with the choice of the faction we want to lead. There are 375 of them in the game and they are differentiated both in terms of development and religion (there are 14 religions and heresies) and cultural features (90 of them are implemented here). Then there's nothing left for us but to take on our shoulders everything that's related to the functioning of our state. Control over vassals and subjects (from peasants to nobles, who can make trouble) is possible through special offices, the construction of impressive buildings (which extensive list contains 600 items) is done by issuing edicts, in turn, to defend your domain we must recruit the most powerful army (made up of knights, spearmen or even crossbowmen).

Once your country starts to prosper, you may want to think about succession to avoid fighting over the throne for future generations. It is worth remembering, however, that even if we make sure that the succession is final, it will not always allow us to avoid civil war after the death of the ruler. An important element of the game is also relations with other countries. As religion plays a huge role in the medieval world, we have to decide whether we will be tolerant of non-believers or, on the contrary, we will decide to declare religious wars or even take part in crusades or jihad.

Integration with Field of Glory II: Medieval is an interesting feature. It allows you to export battles to this game and play them within it. The results of the battles can then be imported to face their consequences.

Game modes

Field of Glory: Kingdoms offers both single and multiplayer game modes in the PBEM system.

Technical aspects

Field of Glory: Kingdoms features a simple graphics, composed mainly of a political map of the medieval world and the interface. The game is full of eye-catching accents straight from the medieval painting.
