Release Date: 2026
The sixth installment of the best-selling racing game series, developed by Playground Games and published by Microsoft. Forza Horizon 6 takes players to Japan and allows them to visit Tokyo and its beautiful locations. We can obtain hundreds of different vehicles, including kei-cars specific to the Japanese market.
Although it started as a spin-off of the Forza Motorsport series (in 2012), Forza Horizon has over the years emerged as a leading racing brand in the publishing catalog of Microsoft's gaming division – and even one of the company's strongest IPs overall. Therefore, Forza Horizon 6 was developed through the combined efforts of two teams: the leading Playground Games and the assisting Turn 10 Studios (the latter contributed to all previous installments, but played a larger role this time since the development of its own Forza Motorsport 8 was phased out).
The exact release date of Forza Horizon 6 is not yet known – it is only known that the premiere will take place in 2026. Considering the history of the series, the game's release can be expected in its traditional time window in the fall (between the end of September and the beginning of November).
Forza Horizon 6 features Japan as its new setting and this is what fans have been requesting for many years. Similar to previous installments, the open world is not a 1:1 reconstruction of a specific area in a given country, but instead focuses on characteristic locations, faithfully recreating the local atmosphere. In FH6 we visit Tokyo ("the most complex" city in the history of the series), and we can also see Mount Fuji.
The developers aimed to provide the most diverse locations associated with Japan – from the streets of a large metropolis (with highways hanging above them), through picturesque rural areas, to mountain serpentine roads. Diversity is further enhanced by the the season system known from previous installments of the Forza Horizon series.
Details about the gameplay in FH6 are shrouded in mystery at the moment. It was only revealed that we will get something akin to a progression system, through which we will strive to achieve Legend status.
Moreover, it can be expected that the gameplay will once again focus on providing the player with as much freedom as possible, and the driving model will be balanced between accessibility and realism. We will likely be able to play alone or in various multiplayer modes, including co-op. From the fourth installment, an increasingly important element of the series has become the extensive track editor, allowing players to showcase their creativity, so it is likely to be included in FH6 as well.
It is not yet known how many cars will be included in Forza Horizon 6 – it can be expected that there will be hundreds, just like in previous installments. The developers have only indicated that they will ensure a great variety of vehicles, which the series has accustomed us to (from "ordinary" passenger and sports models, through drift and racing cars, to rally and off-road vehicles), while also capturing the spirit of Japanese automotive culture, including vans and so-called kei cars. Additionally, it was suggested that car customization options would be improved.

The open-world racing game series, which was born in 2012 as a spin-off of the series Forza Motorsport. Initially, it remained somewhat in the shadow of its older sister, but after a few years it came to the forefront and became one of the most important exclusive titles in Microsoft's catalog. Suffice it to say that Forza Horizon 5 broke the record for the number of players playing simultaneously on the day of release in the publisher's games (more than 4.5 million people). Hand in hand with the excellent sales go the very high ratings received in reviews by subsequent parts of the series. Overseeing the brand since its inception is the British studio Playground Games, in cooperation with the Turn 10 Studios team (authors of Forza Motorsport).
The developers of Forza Horizon 5 won't be showing anything more from their game anytime soon, but they are already promising a lot about the atmosphere and car culture of Japan.
