Frostpunk 2 wasn't received by players as great as the first installment when it hit the market in September 2024. Despite that, its creators from the Polish team 11 bit studios did not delay long in starting to develop the game with paid expansions (alongside updates with fixes and free new features). The first of these is the Fractured Utopias expansion, released over a year after the debut of the base game.

New features in the expansion

Frostpunk 2: Fractured Utopias focuses on the sandbox mode called Utopia Builder.

Unique visions of utopia

For the purpose of this mode, 8 visions of utopia have been prepared, each associated with different factions. These are presented in the form of unique development trees, unlocking which allows us to impose a coherent vision of the future on the city and set a specific direction for its development.

Summary

  • Overall, while the Fractured Utopias DLC was praised for expanding the gameplay of Frostpunk 2 significantly, it also faced criticism for its lack of story content, bugs, and balancing issues. Players who enjoy the Utopia Builder mode found it to be a worthwhile addition, while those seeking narrative depth were left wanting.
