Hell Is Us is an action-adventure game set in an unusual world with elements of modern and fantasy. Game focuses on arcade combat and free exploration, which is not supported by markers on the map or detailed task lists.
Hell Is Us is an action adventure game developed by Rogue Factor, known for Necromunda: Underhive Wars and Mordheim: City of the Damned. The project's creative director is Jonathan Jacques-Belletete. Previously, he was art director at Eidos Montreal on such games as Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.
The action takes place in an alternative reality with a technology level similar to modern times. This world is a place of a brutal civil war, and what's worse, mysterious monsters resembling animated statues get into the middle of this conflict.
Hell Is Us is an action adventure game in which the camera is placed behind the character. We explore the world, complete tasks and fight with enemies using a very arcade skirmish system. Firearms don't work on stone monsters, so during the clashes we have to rely on special swords, axes and spears.
The authors' goal was to provide players with the feeling of true adventure and full freedom of exploration. That's why in Hell Is Us we won't see a detailed list of missions or markers on the map. We have to discover everything on our own.
In the adventure we are helped by a drone, which facilitates finding ourselves in the field, allows us to conduct reconnaissance and is useful during battles.
The game offers attractive 3D graphics built on the Unreal Engine 5.

Hell is Us review: A Demanding mystery with uneven gameplay
Hell Is Us makes bold choices: no hand-holding, no maps, no shortcuts. That design philosophy is both its biggest strength and its biggest frustration.
Cubed3: 7 / 10 by Justin Prinsloo
Hell Is Us takes some welcome risks by refusing to resort to handholding in its mechanics, and is made all the more enjoyable for the trust it puts in its players. This brave design choice — alongside an exceptionally crafted and well-realised setting — more than warrants a visit for players looking for an immersive, lovingly crafted adventure through a bleak but compelling world. An enigmatic story and compellingly written characters round out the pros, but disappointingly shallow combat, a lack of enemy variety and an uneven final act ultimately let it down. Regardless, Hell Is Us is a labour of love, and the passion that’s gone into its creation shines through despite its weaknesses.
Game Informer: 8.2 / 10 by Marcus Stewart
Hell is Us feels like a modernized spin on the classic action/adventure game that, as a third-person game, feels obligated to include combat. The game’s investigation elements are much more fleshed out in comparison to the action, which is, at least, passable enough to endure while I enjoy the main treat of running around and solving puzzles. I’ll be deciphering the game’s remaining riddles well after I rolled credits, and I can’t wait to see what revelations await. Hell is Us isn’t perfect, but it’s a bold and respectable debut that largely delivers on its promise, laying a strong foundation for future stories in its fascinating world.
GameSpot: 7 / 10 by Alessandro Barbosa
Hell is Us promises a narrative adventure without the handholding, and mostly delivers on that through rewarding exploration and experimental combat.
