Mechanics

Lightyear Frontier gives us a vast open world. We can observe the action here both from a first person perspective (FPP) as well as from a TPP. During the game we have various duties on our shoulders. We acquire useful resources and cultivate the land on which we plant different crops (their range expands as we progress). In addition, the globe is inhabited by various animals, which we can tame and breed, and even try to combine with their genetics. With time, we gather enough supplies to be able to construct our first headquarters. As we progress, we expand it, building more and more advanced structures within it. Although it all sounds quite idyllic, from time to time the planet can give us a hard time. The weather (which changes in a realistic way) can be violent and the changing seasons mean that we have to constantly keep an eye on what's happening on the farm.

We do all this sitting behind the wheel of a huge mech. Like a futuristic tractor it serves us both for exploration and work on the farm. With its help we cut down trees and split stones, or even water the plants and mow the crops. As we progress, we gain various upgrades that increase its capabilities.

Of course, our stay on the alien planet is not only about work on the farm. This picturesque globe is full of secrets hidden in ancient buildings left by the ancient civilization. Exploring them, we learn more about the planet and its previous inhabitants.

Game modes

Lightyear Frontier allows for both solo play and cooperative gameplay with up to three players.

Technical aspects

Lightyear Frontier features colorful graphics in a pleasant style that brings to mind No Man's Sky. The game takes place to the accompaniment of a catchy soundtrack described by the creators as "space country".
