Lost Eidolons: Veil of the Witch

Lost Eidolons: Veil of the Witch is a spin-off of a 2022 tactical RPG, Lost Eidolons. It was once again developed by Ocean Drive Studio, now featuring roguelike elements alongside tactical RPG mechanics.

Plot

Lost Eidolons: Veil of the Witch is set in a fantasy universe. The game takes place shortly after its predecessor, but you do not need to have played it to enjoy and understand the story.

Our playable character is saved from certain death by the Witch of the Crossroads. After returning to the world of the living, they find themselves on a mysterious island overrun by hordes of undead, our task being to get rid of their threat and deal with their leaders before things get our of control. We must also remember our previous life and the reason we're here.

Mechanics

Lost Eidolons: Veil of the Witch features many recruitable party members, differing in terms of classes, preferred equipment and fighting style. As we progress through the game, we'll get to know them better and unlock their personal quests.

The primary gameplay loop once again revolves around turn-based combat. Battles take place on square grids, requiring proper use of the characters' unique abilities, their strengths and exploiting the enemies' weaknesses. We can also make use of artifacts to turn the tide of battle in our favor. We'll face many different opponents - imperial fanatics, the undead and gigantic monsters. As we progress through the game, we upgrade our party members, gain better gear and artifacts, and acquire useful blessings.

As befitting a roguelike, death is commonplace. Once we fall, we'll respawn in our camp and need to start over again. Over time, we unlock permanent upgrades, bringing us closer to completing our main objective with every run.

The game differs from Lost Eidolons not only due to its roguelike elements, but also its simplified skill trees. Each character has a single class, preferred weapon and armor, and a unique fighting style. The scale of the story and the storytelling methods are also a bit more modest.

Technical aspects

In terms of visuals, Lost Eidolons: Veil of the Witch doesn't differ much from the original game. There are some changes to the artstyle and the interface.
