Martha is Dead is another, after The Town of Light, psychological thriller of the Italian studio LKA. The game is maintained in the same convention and belongs to the first-person adventure game genre. The main focus is on exploration, solving puzzles and presenting a compelling story that is a mixture of fiction and facts.

Plot

The action of the game takes place in Tuscany in 1944, during the intensification of the conflict between Axis and Allied forces. But the war is only the background for the story, because the main theme revolves around the mysterious murder of the eponymous Martha, daughter of a German soldier, whose desecrated body is found one day. We play the twin sister of the murdered woman who, struggling with the trauma of losing her loved one, tries to solve the mystery of the crime.

Apart from emphasizing dark, suspenseful plot with folklore elements and a bit of facts, the game touches upon difficult topics of loss, suffering and dealing with one's psyche after traumatic events.

Mechanics

In terms of gameplay, we are dealing with a classic adventure game. The gameplay is based on exploration of open and closed locations, interacting with elements of the environment, analyzing clues and solving puzzles that will enables us to get closer to the truth about Martha's brutal murder.

Technical aspects

Martha is Dead is powered by Unreal Engine 4 and uses advanced texturing and ray tracing techniques. The creators wanted to recreate the appearance of the Second World War Tuscany as realistically as possible. The areas that we visit during gameplay are often dark to create a feeling of constant tension in the player. A disturbing soundtrack also helps create the dense atmosphere.
