Developers of card games often combine solutions from roguelite productions. Independent studio I M Game from South Korea added one more element to this mix, as Master of Piece, created by them, is a tactical game inspired by board games.
In Master of Piece we watch the action in an isometric view. During the gameplay we take on the role of a commander who heads a team of mercenaries and leads it through a fantastic land shrouded in the Black Mist, along the way discovering the secrets hidden by it. The adventure leads through a world map covered with a grid of square p?ls. The same way the arenas, where turn-based skirmishes with opponents take place, are presented.
In addition to opportunities for combat, in the game world we encounter fields associated with certain events. These are presented in the form of cards that allow you to decide what you want to do in a given situation. In addition, there are objects waiting to be visited that allow you to prepare for the journey ahead, either by purchasing relics and items or exchanging unnecessary mercenaries.
After entering a square occupied by enemies, we are transferred to the battlefield and, over the course of successive rounds, we deploy our sub-commanders (using action points). Then, like in auto battlers, we observe how they perform in battle. We can also support them using the commander's skills.
The various warriors are presented as static figures, the collection of which replaces the deck from classic card games. They differ from each other in their unique characteristics, as well as in their main parameters, namely life points, attack power and speed. The latter is important insofar as it determines the order of actions on the battlefield. Victory goes to the team that first manages to destroy the enemy flag, located at the opposite end of the arena.
As you progress, recruit new team members and develop the already unlocked ones. We can also increase their combat potential by acquiring special relics, as well as spreading rumors about them (for which visits to taverns are an opportunity), which provide them with special abilities. In order to achieve success, it is necessary to ensure that the members of the team complement each other through the synergies occurring between them.
On the other hand, when you suffer a defeat, you end up in your outpost and face the necessity of starting the crossing over again. Resources come to your aid and can be used to construct buildings that provide permanent improvements in the form of stronger mercenaries or better equipment.
The graphic design of Master of Piece was made in cel-shading technique; the whole game was "drawn" with thick cartoonish lines.
