New Arc Line

New Arc Line is a tactical turn-based RPG, developed and published by the Czech-Ukrainian team Dreamate Games.

Plot

New Arc Line is set in a steampunk world, where magic and technology co-exist. It's highly inspired by the US at the turn of the 19th and 20th century, taking place during the time of industrial revolution, groundbreaking change and new inventions.

The game's main setting is the titular city. Like Terry Pratchett's Ankh-Morpork, New Arc seems to promise a better tomorrow to all its people. It thus attracts various immigrants, mages and technologists from all over the world. Steamships and zeppelins constantly arrive at the city, bringing those seeking opportunity. This increase in population, however, causes greater social tension, leading to racial segregation, inequality and corruption.

New Arc is thus on the brink of a civil war. That's when our custom-made protagonist arrives to the city. They soon learn their actions may tip the scales of the conflict. One of the primary choices in New Arc Line is whether to follow technology or magic. The former is considered natural, while the latter - an affront to nature.

Mechanics

Players will meet many companions during their adventure. The party can fit four characters at once. Companions, however, cannot be personalized - only the protagonist can. They do have unique abilities though, which can be upgraded.

Combat in New Arc Lineis turn-based. Some battles can also be avoided by successfully talking to NPCs. Other than battling, there are also deadly gadgets to create, arcane magic to learn and a world to explore, full of quests and loot. The latter can be found, purchased or stolen.

Technical aspects

New Arc Line features an isometric, singleplayer campaign.
