Mechanics

The gameplay of PC version of Overfall is similar to the one presented in other similar games. The heroes are completing various tasks and they fight the enemies encountered on their way. This allows them to develop their abilities and unlock new specializations. The game world was divided into islands between which the protagonists can travel by using a ship. The world is inhabited by the members of various factions – goblins, Vikings, dwarves, elves. Depending on player’s actions, they can be friendly or hostile towards the protagonists. What distinguishes the title from other similar productions are the roguelike genre features. The game world is procedurally generated, which greatly increases the so-called “replayability” – in theory, each playthrough can be completely different than the previous one. In addition to that, the death of each character is permanent and can impact the outcome of the journey. Because of that, each time the player starts a new game, the story will probably move in a completely different direction.

Despite the fact that exploration of the fantasy world is being done in real-time, the battles are turn-based and take place on a tactical net. Developing various strategies based on what type of opponent is the player facing is the key to victory. The protagonists can use various pieces of equipment and weapons and the new equipment can be found on their way or obtained from the defeated enemies.

Technical aspects

Overfall for PC is powered by Unity engine, which provided a decent-quality graphics. The game uses cartoonish style and the characters are hand-drawn. The game has a climatic soundtrack which can also be purchased separately.
