A collection of remasters of the first two games from the popular strategy-rhythm series, published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. Patapon 1+2 Replay brings back 2 games which originally debuted on the PSP handheld, forcing us to press certain button combinations to give various orders to the titular characters.
Patapon 1+2 Replay is a compilation of remastered versions of the first two installments of the cult strategy-rhythm game series. This collection was developed by the Japanese studio SAS, while its release was handled by Bandai Namco Entertainment (which received a license to use the brand from Sony Interactive Entertainment).
In Patapon 1+2 Replay we watch the action from the side. During the game, we take control of a squad of titular creatures, who set off on an expedition in search of a new home.
Individual Patapons were differentiated in terms of classes (roles) determining their characteristics, equipment, and skills. Some of the class examples are Tatepon equipped with a shield, Yumipon shooting a bow, or Hatapon leading allies and holding a flag. Our task is to compose such a unit, whose members will complement each other. They must be ready to face increasingly greater threats.
While leading the Patapons, we give them commands by pressing a sequence of buttons, each of which triggers a hit on one of the drums: Pata, Pon, Don, and Chaka. Depending on the combination of strikes we initiate, we will give our characters a different command. For example, we can order them to move forward, adopt a defensive stance, or launch an attack. In order to achieve success, we must not only remember individual commands, but also demonstrate a sense of rhythm.
As we progress, we improve the Patapons, creating their more powerful variants, and also equipping them with new weapons and other equipment.
Compared to the originals, the described remasters stand out due to new features that enhance the comfort of gameplay. This compilation allows us to adjust the level of difficulty and change the pace of pressing buttons, as well as permanently "pin" the drum icon to the screen. Additionally, the whole thing has been adapted to work in higher resolutions.

Game Ratings for Patapon 1+2 Replay Video Game.
TheSixthAxis: 7 / 10 by Dominic Leighton
The inclusion of both the original and its superior sequel make Patapon 1+2 a great value release at the very least, but Bandai Namco could have done so much more to make these games as palatable as possible for modern audiences.
Checkpoint Gaming: 7.5 / 10 by Charlie Kelly
With the release of PATAPON 1+2 Replay comes vibrant and wonderful flashbacks to a colourful, vibrant, arcade-y and, most importantly, fun, era of games that don't really exist anymore. It was a joy for me to visit these games for the first time, and I'm finally well invested in the majesty and magic of the RTS and rhythm fusion harmony that the franchise is known for. With how grandiose and exciting the battles get with their devotion to music and busy, frantic chaos that explode across the screen, I'd be hard-pressed to find any fan, new or old, who doesn't find joy here, smiling like a huge dork as your units chant and stomp across the world. Though there's still the oddball of funk, including some poor tutorialisation in the first game and real brick wall moments that require grind, I'm glad PATAPON is back in a largely unaffected package. Players should jump right into this here nostalgia-infused release. The water's fine, and you'll be remembering the Patapons' spirit songs for years to come.
Game8: 84 / 100 by Lloyd Opalec
Patapon 1+2 Replay finally gives these quirky rhythm-strategy games the treatment they deserve. It not only polishes up the originals but also significantly improves upon the 2020 remasters with quality-of-life enhancements we never realized were missing. It’s still as grindy, as bizarre, and as utterly unique as ever, even almost two decades on. It’s a bit disappointing that this collection excludes Patapon 3, but what’s here marches to the beat just fine.
