Pharaoh: A New Era is a remake of the cult city builder strategy game entitled Pharaoh, and an expansion entitled Cleopatra: Queen of the Nile. The game, developed by the Triskell Interactive studio (which has a Lethis series in its portfolio), differs from the original with its thoroughly refreshed graphics and soundtrack as well as modernised mechanics.

As the title suggests, Pharaoh: A New Era takes us on a journey to ancient Egypt. With more than fifty missions, the campaign not only learns the rules of the game, but also learns about the history of the country from the beginning of its history to the times when Cleopatra ruled it.

In Pharaoh: A New Era the action was shown from the top-down view. During the game, we are involved in building thriving cities. If we want a small settlement to become a powerful metropolis, we must take care of all aspects of its functioning. We are therefore engaged in the extraction of resources and the construction of new buildings, the creation of road networks and production chains, agriculture (which is almost entirely dependent on the floods of the Nile), and also issues relating to trade and the defence of our territory, led by the recruitment of troops. As a ruler, we should also bear in mind the welfare of our people, bowing to their needs and fulfilling their desires from time to time.

Our plans, however, can be crushed by plagues and natural disasters, and the effects of hail or locusts can be felt long after they have passed. However, if everything goes as planned and the state treasury does not shine empty (we are informed about the condition of our city by clear indicators), we can demonstrate our power to the world by battling with enemies (on land and sea) or building monuments, such as the pyramids, the Sphinx or even the lighthouse in Alexandria.

Game modes

In addition to the missions forming the single player campaign in Pharaoh: A New Era, there is space for an extensive editor to create your own scenarios.

Technical aspects

The graphic design of Pharaoh: A New Era and its interface has been adapted to operate in 4K mode. The authors have not limited themselves to boosting resolution; they have leaned over all the elements of the graphics, thoroughly refreshing its individual elements, making the whole thing sharp and clear. Improvements were also made to the soundtrack, which has been re-designed, as well as to the user interface and controls, which have been adapted to modern standards.
