A cooking arcade game with roguelike elements, in which we run a restaurant - either alone or in up to four-player co-op mode. Players' tasks include cooking, as well as serving customers and managing the restaurant.

PlateUp! is an arcade cooking game developed by It's happening, somewhat reminiscent of the Overcooked series. The player is tasked not only with cooking various dishes, but also managing the restaurant itself - from interior design to customer service.

Mechanics

In order to efficiently complete their tasks, the player can join forces with their friends in the co-op mode, supporting up to four players (online or shared screen). The game is still fully playable in singleplayer. Nonetheless, it is difficult, as each finished day draws more customers towards your restaurant - who are often difficult to please within the time limit.

It's extremely important for your restaurant's interior design to support quick service. You can adjust the interior to your current needs after every workday, using the money earned to buy new equipment. Correctly designing the building's interior and automating certain processes will make it easier for the player to achieve their objective - keeping the restaurant open for fifteen days.

Rogelike elements

Success advances the player to a more difficult stage, granting access to additional bonuses and upgrades. Some of these bonuses can be preserved in-between your playthroughs - this is the main roguelike feature of the game - making them a sort of baseline of your brand.

This is important, as the increasing challenge makes it easy to mess up and cause your restaurant to bankrupt. If that happens, you'll need to start over from scratch in a new, randomly generated restaurant, with a unique atmosphere, conditions and customers. Progressing through the game unlocks different types of restaurants, serving different kinds of dishes.

Technical aspects

The graphics of PlateUp! are simple and colorful. The characters and all interactive objects are clearly marked, letting the player focus on efficiently managing the restaurant.
