Plot

Quantic River is set in a dystopian cyberpunk world. We play as a cyborg brought back to life to fulfill their purpose - fight their way through the ravaged city, wielding a katana to cut down enemy hordes.

Mechanics

Quantic River is a side-scroller. The game leads us through various areas, ranging from building interiors to dark alleys. As we traverse them, we must avoid obstacles, traps and face off against enemies. Combat is fast-paced, requiring agility and good reflexes, staying mobile, blocking, parrying and countering enemy attacks. The environments are destructible and we can take advantage of it, chopping certain objects with our katana.

Many encounters can also be avoided; for example, rather than attacking the turrets guarding a door, we can find an alternate path or hack the security systems.

As we progress further, we develop our protagonist, upgrading their mechanical body parts. This makes us grow more powerful, letting us face greater challenges.
