The second part of a series of strategy games, in which we are at the head of the chosen country and lead it to global domination. In Realpolitik II it is only up to us to decide whether we will put our trust in the rule of the hard hand and warfare, or whether we respect the principles of democracy and free market law.

Realpolitik II is the second installment of a series of strategy games launched in 2017. The production was developed by the authors of the first part of the series, i.e. the Polish Jujubee studio, and (like the original) allows us to lead the selected contemporary state to global domination.

Mechanics

Realpolitik II starts with the selection of one of 216 countries, including such exotic countries as Kiribati and Sealand. We still have nothing left to do but try to make it a world empire. It is only up to us whether we will respect the principles of democracy and the laws governing the free market, or whether we will put our trust in communist ideals. During the game we spend most of our time on the world map, and we deal with issues related to the development of infrastructure and maintaining more or less positive relations with other nations. Besides, from time to time we face the consequences of more than a thousand random events, and we also face modern problems like hunger, pandemic or terrorism.

  • Roleplay Value: Players have the freedom to choose any contemporary nation without being penalized for their choices, enhancing the roleplaying experience.
  • Variety of Strategies: The game offers a range of strategies, including espionage, military, economic, and political maneuvers, which can be engaging for players looking to experiment with different approaches.
  • Map Design and Visuals: Some reviews praise the map design and color scheme, suggesting it is more appealing than its predecessor.

The main cons of the game

  • Performance Issues: Many users report significant bugs, crashes, and poor optimization, leading to frustrating gameplay experiences. Visual glitches and high CPU usage are also mentioned.
  • Complexity and UI Issues: The interface has been criticized for being cluttered and unintuitive, with essential information buried in multiple menus, making it difficult to navigate.
  • Short and Easy Wars: Players feel that military conflicts are too simplistic and resolved too quickly, lacking the depth and scale found in other grand strategy games.
  • Internal Politics: The political system is perceived as biased, with conservative parties often obstructing progress, which can lead to a frustrating experience for players seeking to implement changes.

The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users

  • Automation Options: Users express a desire for more automation in managing various aspects of the game, as the current micromanagement can be overwhelming.
  • Dynamic Content: There is a call for more depth in gameplay mechanics, particularly in internal politics and military engagements, to avoid repetitive experiences.
  • Improved Tutorial: Many players mention that the tutorial is broken or insufficient, making it difficult for new players to learn the game effectively.
  • Longer and More Engaging Wars: A desire for a front system similar to other grand strategy games (like HOI4) to make military conflicts feel more substantial and immersive.

Summary

  • Overall, while Realpolitiks II has potential and offers an engaging experience for new players, it suffers from various technical and design flaws that hinder its overall enjoyment and replayability.
