Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is the third production under A Plague Tale banner. It is a series that began in 2019. As the title suggests, we are not dealing with a sequel here, but with a spin-off of the brand, realized in the form of a prequel to the game A Plague Tale: Requiem. This action-adventure game was developed by the creators of the previous parts of the series, namely the French Asobo Studio.

Story

The action of Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy takes place 15 years before the events told in the second installment of the series. The main character of the game is Sophia, a young plunderer, whose escape leads her to the Minotaur's Island, which in the Bronze Age belonged to the Minoan civilization.

A Plague Tale Game Series

A series of action adventure games with stealth elements, created and developed by the French development team Asobo Studio. The first installment of the series, i.e. A Plague Tale: Innocence, debuted in 2019. Its artistic and commercial success led its publisher, Focus Entertainment (formerly known as Focus Home Interactive), to give the green light to develop its sequel. The second part of the series, titled A Plague Tale: Requiem, players could check out in 2022. The production repeated the success of its predecessor, and although the developers argued that the story they had told was a closed whole, it looked like the series would live to see further installments.

Worth Playing: 8.5 / 10 by Cody Medellin

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is a very good addition to the series, provided you don't mind how much it differs from its predecessors. Exploration is rewarding, particularly with the new grappling hook, while the puzzles remain clever without becoming obtuse. Stealth has been heavily reduced, but the expanded combat more than makes up for it, creating an experience that feels faster and more satisfying. As before, though, the story is the real star. It's exciting and gut-wrenching even when you already know its ultimate outcome. Series fans should find plenty to enjoy, while adventure game fans have another compelling reason to give it a look.

Press Start: 8.5 / 10 by James Berich

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is a strong adventure that delivers a clever twist on Greek mythology rather than the games its spun off of. It combines strong combat, exploration and atmosphere with some gnarly creature encounters in a clever way, though the puzzles are uneven and the mechanics are largely derivative. Regardless, Sophia's journey is intriguing from beginning to end, making Resonance a memorable adventure even if its resemblance to the Plague Tale games are fleeting.

The Punished Backlog: 7.5 / 10 by Clint Morrison, Jr.

I spent a very welcome 12 hours in the world of Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, which does succeed as both prequel (as advertised) and sequel. The Plague Tale games consistently feel like a hodgepodge of ideas. This game provides a multitude of possibilities for where the series could go next, from more medieval Tomb Raider to re-envisioned ancient horrors. Ultimately, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is a kaleidoscope: a game full of mirrors that reflect light differently based on how it is held. From the right angle, it shines beautifully; however, when Asobo Studio lets its inspirations outshine the game's uniqueness, A Plague Tale Legacy becomes yet another third-person adventure game with an unnecessary skill tree.
