Echoes of the End is an action adventure game set in a fantasy world. It was developed by Myrkur Games studio from Reykjavik and it is their debut project.

Gameplay

In Echoes of the End we watch the action from a third-person perspective (TPP).

Game world and adventure

The adventure leads us through various locations inspired by Iceland's landscapes, among which we will find wastelands overgrown with moss, snow-covered mountain peaks, and also lava lakes. While exploring these places, we carry out missions and push the plot forward, solve environmental puzzles and face skill challenges, as well as fight enemies.

Fencing and magical powers

The main character is a seasoned fencer, but her skills do not end with swordsmanship. The protagonist has been endowed with magical powers, which provides her with the ability of telekinesis and the use of invisible paths. Ryn uses these capabilities both to manipulate the environment and unlock new areas, as well as on the battlefield.

Combat and opponents

During dynamic skirmishes, we block attacks, perform dodges and launch swift counterattacks, but also lift opponents and forcefully throw them onto the ground. We have to deal with hostile people and also fantasy creatures. Among the latter, powerful bosses are leading the way.

The Beta Network: 7 / 10 by Anthony Culinas

Echoes of the End is a quirky, Icelandic-themed adventure blending awesome platforming, puzzles and decent combat, inspired by some of the biggest names in gaming. Its imagination and variety are impressive for a first-time dev, but the constant bugs, wonky animations and inconsistent sound design stop it from reaching its full potential. Though as the ending leaves things open for a sequel, hopefully they can come back and edge closer to glory.

Quest Daily: 6.5 / 10 by Nathanael Peacock

Echoes of the End takes some big swings with its original fantasy world, gorgeous visuals, and solid third-person puzzles and combat. At the same time, it’s hampered by technical issues and a 13-hour story that — while short — still manages to feel padded in places.

Nothing about Echoes of the End is original, but it’s worth a look if you’re a fan of flashy action and environmental puzzles.
