A hybrid of an action survival game and a city builder, set in the universe inspired by Ancient Rome. In Romestead we explore an open world and fight opponents, as well as build a prosperous settlement from scratch. We can play alone or in coop mode.
Romestead is a production on the border of survival action games and city builders, set in a fantasy world inspired by ancient Rome. It is the debut project of the independent Swedish studio Beartwigs. Its release was handled by the company Three Friends, founded by developers who co-created games such as Valheim, Minecraft and Deep Rock Galactic.
In Romestead we watch the action from a bird's eye view. The game provides us with an open world and our main task is to build a thriving city from scratch. It is supposed to lead to the revival of Rome, which fell under the pressure of sinister forces.
The world of the game consists of diverse biomes - from forests and swamps, through sandy and volcanic wastelands, to a ruined metropolis. While exploring them, we have to engage in skillful battles with opponents. We can encounter standard enemies who mainly rely on numbers, as well as bosses who are significantly more powerful than them.
In order to face all the challenges, we need to gather the resources needed to craft new equipment.
The resources we acquire are also used to build a settlement, which gradually transforms into a real city with each subsequent construction. It is made up not only of buildings, but also of characters inhabiting it. We must provide work for them, allowing them to forge weapons, cultivate the land and gather resources for us.
Our actions do not escape the attention of the sinister forces that led to the fall of Rome. We must not forget about defense issues, building fortifications in advance and preparing siege weapons.
A special mention should be made of the cult system, through which the deities we worship from the Roman pantheon bestow their blessings upon us. We can win the favor of the gods by performing tasks for them or making sacrifices in their honor. Satisfied deities provide us with access to unique technologies, buildings and improvements.
Romestead allows for single-player fun or cooperative gameplay via the Internet or a local network.
The graphic design of Romestead was created in pixel art technique, in which Beartwigs studio specializes.
Romestead will hit the market thanks to a company that includes Minecraft, Valheim, and Deep Rock Galactic veterans.
