TPP action adventure skateboarding arcade game. In Skate Story we go to the Otherworld, which we wander as a demon of pain and glass, trying to regain our lost freedom.
Skate Story is an action adventure game, with elements straight from arcade games concentrated on skateboarding. It was developed by Sam Eng, an indie developer, and published by Devolver Digital.
Skate Story takes us on a journey to the original version of the Netherworld. The main character of the game is a demon made of pain and glass. Protagonist receives from the devil a skateboard and a task which is to catch up with the moon and... swallow it. When (if?) he succeeds, he regains his lost freedom.
In Skate Story we observe the action from the third person perspective (TPP). We dash through nine levels of the Netherworld and complete tasks set before us. Along the way we eliminate hostile demons and save other tormented souls.
Moving through the netherworlds is varied by a system of tricks. The list of tricks we can perform includes more than 70 different ones, led by ollies, kickflips and grinds. Learning all of them is not easy, and hard landings end painfully for the protagonist (his body is made of glass, so after hitting the ground it shatters into dozens of pieces). Nevertheless, the game is worth the candle, because once we're familiarized with the meanders of skateboarding, we can start scoring more attempts. In exchange for the latter, we get new equipment, and gain the opportunity to expand our range of tricks.
Graphics in Skate Story was made in low poly technique (its elements, especially the model of the main character, consist of a small number of polygons) and maintained in an original style, which is difficult to compare to anything else; the whole evokes certain associations with the TRON movie series. The game is accompanied by an ambient soundtrack by a New York-based artist known as Blood Cultures and songs by John Fio.

Game Ratings for Skate Story Video Game.
Use a Potion: 8.5 / 10
Skate Story dazzles with a style and confidence that set it apart from ANYTHING else in the skateboarding genre. Sure, the controls can take getting used to and there are a few little missteps, but these are small blemishes on an experience that’s consistently thrilling, gorgeous, and packed to the brim with skateboarding goodness. With its surreal world, hypnotic presentation, and thrilling sense of skateboarding style, Skate Story manages to feel really, really special. And hey, what a year 2025 has been for skateboarding fans… it’s wonderful.
PlayStation Universe: 8 / 10 by Garri Bagdasarov
Though Skate Story may be a barebones skateboarding game, the rest of the game is a stunning visual and audibly experience. The game's soundtrack is incredible and perfectly fits the abstract, psychedelic visual style.
NintendoWorldReport: 8.5 / 10 by Willem Hilhorst
It is filled with love and passion, but frustration and despair, often stretching at the seams. I do not know Sam Eng, but I have a feeling that I got an insight into what he loves about making games. I may never be a skating game diehard, but Skate Story is a story worth sharing.
