SpaceBourne 2 is a sequel to 2020's SpaceBourne - an action game with RPG elements, set in an open sci-fi world. Both games were developed and published by Burak Dabak. The sequel's world is even more expansive and diverse than in the first game, offering more interactions as well.
The game is set after the first installment. After the extinction of mankind, the only survivor, a distinguished Commander, woke up alone after years of cryogenic sleep. He had to find a cure for the disease that drove humans extinct and forced him into a coma, as well as find purpose in the new universe.
This time he has a different goal - create a new cosmic superpower. It's up to us how he does it, with many different paths we can take - mining, trading, diplomacy and even piracy.
The game revolves around exploring the massive world, containing thousands procedurally generated star systems, planets and other celestial bodies. Each of these objects is interactable, with globe surfaces being particularly noteworthy, as they feature many interesting locations: caves, villages, cities, all inhabited by the game's three races.
Our ship is our most important property, as it's used to travel, extract resources and fight enemies in outer space. It can be widely customized, affecting its speed, endurance and combat capabilities. The player can choose specific modules and where to install them, resulting in a large number of possible combinations.
Throughout the game we can also develop our character, who we create at the very beginning (by choosing their appearance and initial traits). Completing quests and defeating enemies rewards us with experience, required to level up and acquire new skills. Some abilities improve with use - for example, the more we trade, the better at trading we become. Acquiring the right equipment is also important - weapons, armor and gadgets are crucial in combat and while exploring.
There is a number of activities to choose from during the game. Using mining tools we can extract resources from asteroids, moons and planets, sometimes discovering and exploring cave systems. We can also research space anomalies, take paid assignments or hunt wanted criminals.
A new feature are companions, which can be freely selected, taken along as support or assigned functions aboard the ship. We can also establish diplomatic relations with different factions ruling over stretches of the cosmos.
The game only supports singleplayers. Each mission differs gameplay-wise - some are similar to third-person shooters, other resemble roguelike levels featuring unique loot.
SpaceBourne 2 runs on the Unreal Engine 4.
