Warlords delivers a huge step forward for The Division 2, fixing a lot of the problems that have been around for a long time, bringing some much-needed variety into the map. The big city creates tighter and more chaotic fights, adding to the experience. With the new missions and Skills for players to try it breathes some fresh air into the game. The new rewards system helps make players feel valued for their time invested, and this is great for the elite among us. It is well worth jumping back into the game to explore New York once again and finally hunt down Aaron Keener.

IGN: 8 / 10 by James Duggan

A strong story and brilliant RPG systems make Warlords of New York a real shot in the arm for The Division 2, but a lot of initial excitement is soaked up by bullet-sponge enemies in the endgame.

Attack of the Fanboy: 3.5 / 5 by Diego Perez

Warlords of New York is just more of The Division 2, and while that may sound appealing to some, there's little here to entice new or lapsed players to return to the run-down streets of the first game.

The main pros of the game

  • New Open World: The expansion introduces a new, immersive open-world area set in lower Manhattan, which many players find more engaging than the base game's Washington DC.
  • Content Addition: It includes 4 new skills, 5 main missions, additional side content, and projects for the new map, enhancing gameplay variety.
  • Improved Gameplay Mechanics: Players appreciate the more tactical and varied combat, as well as the streamlined equipment management system.
  • Story and Characters: The narrative adds depth to the game, featuring returning characters from Division 1 and a compelling antagonist in Aaron Keener.
  • Community Engagement: The game maintains a dedicated player base with regular updates and seasonal content, contributing to a vibrant online community.

The main cons of the game

  • Level Cap Changes: The removal of the level 40 cap exclusivity has diminished the perceived value of the expansion, as many endgame features are now accessible to all players without needing the DLC.
  • Repetitive Missions: Some users find the missions and side content repetitive, lacking fresh challenges after the initial excitement wears off.
  • Difficulty Issues: The missions are considered too easy for players who have reached level 40, leading to a less satisfying experience for those seeking a challenge.
  • Technical Issues: Players have reported various technical problems, including game crashes and difficulty accessing the DLC, which can detract from the overall experience.

The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users

  • Dark Zone Absence: Some players expressed disappointment that the expansion does not include a Dark Zone, which is a popular PvP feature in the game.
  • More Engaging Endgame Content: There is a desire for more varied and challenging endgame content, as some players feel that the current offerings lack depth and excitement.
  • Enhanced Story Missions: Users noted that the story missions could be more creatively designed and engaging, with some describing them as uninspired.
  • Improved PvP Balance: Feedback indicates a need for better balance in PvP scenarios, as some builds dominate the gameplay, making it frustrating for others.

Summary

  • Overall, while the Warlords of New York expansion is well-received for its new content and engaging setting, it faces criticism regarding its value and the challenges it presents, especially in light of recent changes to the base game.
