Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow is a spin-off of the cult stealth game series, initiated by Thief: The Dark Project back in 1998. The game was developed by the Maze Theory studio (known for games from the Doctor Who series, namely The Edge of Time, The Lonely Assassins, and The Edge of Reality) under the supervision of the Eidos Montreal team. Its release was handled by Vertigo Games. This project was prepared exclusively with virtual reality headsets in mid.

Story

Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow takes us to the steampunk universe known from the previous parts of the series, specifically - to the City, in whose darkness we once again have to immerse ourselves. The metropolis is ruled with an iron fist by Baron Ulysses Northcrest, who is making himself rich at the expense of the residents, and nipping any signs of opposition in the bud.

Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow captures the spirit of the franchise and implements it into the VR realm. While smaller in scale, the tight, intricate design makes use of the platform to create an exhilarating stealth adventure. The interactivity anchors you in the world; however, small bugs can quickly break the immersion. While the franchise has stepped away from its origins, it’s found new life in VR.

Duuro Magazine: by Krist Duro

Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow is not a bad game. It is an enjoyable, lightweight stealth adventure with good vibes, fun levels, and a clear respect for what makes the Thief fantasy appealing. It is also not essential. It is the definition of a solid seven out of ten experience. Something you play, appreciate for what it is, shrug at the rough parts, and move on.

It’s a mostly triumphant return for this long-dormant franchise, one that makes excellent use of VR to enhance immersion and really makes you feel like a master thief. Though it’s not perfect, and a few issues hold it back. Whilst, as a franchise fan, I wouldn’t recommend fellow fans to run out and buy a headset for this release, it is one I can easily recommend to longtime Thief fans and newcomers that also happen to have a VR headset.
