Turok Video Game Series
FPS series based on the license of the comic books of the same title. The series was launched in 1997 by Iguana Entertainment, owned by Acclaim Entertainment. After the bankruptcy of the former (which took place in 2004) the series was taken over by Propaganda Games studio and publisher Touchstone Games. Since 2015 its development (focused on releasing remasters of its oldest installments) has been handled by Nightdive Studios, a company specializing in remastering the classics.
In the Turok series we take on the role of fearless heroes who face all sorts of threats. Although among the latter the lead is taken by various species of dinosaurs, on our way we can also encounter other dangerous creatures (like aggressive aliens), as well as people. During the game we get access to an extensive arsenal, which includes modern firearms and futuristic ones, as well as more traditional weapons, such as a knife or a bow. In addition, the third installment introduced two playable heroes, who were differentiated in terms of skills and fighting style, while the reboot released in 2008 offered the possibility to engage in open fights or act silently and eliminate enemies by surprise. Although the mainstay of each of these productions was story campaigns, most of them also offered multiplayer modes.
The first part of the series, titled Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, was released for the Nintendo 64 and personal computers in 1997. Players didn't have to wait long for its sequel - Turok 2: Seeds of Evil was released on Nintendo 64 in 1998 (the game was accompanied by a smaller production of the same title prepared for the Game Boy Color), while in 1999 it was released on PC. The third part of the series, Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion, appeared in 2000 on the Nintendo 64 console. Like its predecessor, it was released alongside a smaller game (sharing the title), released for the Game Boy Color.
In 2002 Turok: Dinosaur Hunter got a prequel titled Turok: Evolution, developed for the PlayStation 2, Xbox and GameCube consoles. A year later, the game was also released for personal computers; in addition, a spin-off of the same title was released for the Game Boy Advance. In 2008, the series was rebooted on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, simply titled Turok.
In the meantime, there were also several other projects in this series, which ultimately weren't released. Before Turok: Evolution on Game Boy Advance, we were supposed to get another game, but it was eventually canceled. Turok: Evolution was expected to get a sequel, but it ultimately never made it beyond the early stages of production. Turok from 2008 was also supposed to get a sequel, titled Turok 2, but when a wave of layoffs swept through Propaganda Games, it was decided to cancel it.
In 2015, the world was reminded of the franchise through the initiative of Nightdive Studios, a company specializing in remastering the classics. The studio released Turok Remastered on PC (and, later also on consoles), which received a slight graphical refresh. In 2017, the remaster of the first game was followed by Turok 2: Seeds of Evil Remastered, which not only refreshed the visuals of the original, but also brought a number of improvements, such as a new interface, improved AI and revised character movement mechanics. In 2023, we got Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion Remastered, running on proprietary KEX Engine technology. It is worth noting that with this title, PC players were able for the first time to follow the story told in the third Turok.

In Turok Origins we play as one of the warriors fighting to defend the planet from both dinosaurs and hostile aliens. We can develop our character as we progress. The game allows for singleplayer and online coop gameplay.

Turok 2: Seeds of Evil Remastered is a remaster of the cult FPP shooter, developed by Night Dive. Many changes were made in the game: visuals, interface, gameplay mechanics, etc. The game now runs on Kex Engine 3.4, the enemies' A.I. was improved (now they can attack in groups and run away if required) and so was the character's movement (i.e. the hero can now climb onto some of the environmental elements). Quicksave option was also implemented, and the possibility to teleport back to the portal we have already discovered. The core of the game in Turok 2: Seeds of Evil Remastered remains the same. This is still a fine FPS where we play as Joshua Fireseed, the dinosaur hunter, and our goal is to defeat the Primagen. The game offers a single player campaign and a competitive multiplayer mode.

A remastered edition of the cult first-person shooter from Iguana Studio, released back in 1997 for Nintendo 64 and PC. The comic book-inspired character of Turok, a Native America named Tal Set, fulfills a centuries-long tradition of his people, serving as Mother Earth's protector from dangers posed by the inhabitants of the Lost Land. When the so-called Campaigner attempts to use an army of modified dinosaurs to conquer the entire universe, the protagonist has to journey across 8 worlds, and find all fragments of an ancient weapon, which is the only chance of defeating the evil. Turok Remastered was designed by Night Dive Studios, who specialize in re-editions of classic games. In terms of game mechanics the title does not differ from the original 1993 game. All changes can be boiled down to increased screen resolution and adjustments necessary for the game to support wide-screen monitors.
