Vagrus - The Riven Realms is a turn-based RPG with a touch of strategy, created by the independent studio Lost Pilgrims. The title puts great emphasis on the plot and the world, which is a direct result of the fact that the idea for the game evolved during the paper RPG sessions in which the creators played.
Hundreds of years ago, the Empire ruled indivisibly the territory called The Riven Realms. However, the emperor's power and the crimes committed against the people opposed to his will have not escaped the attention of the gods. They came down to earth and went mad, seeing the enormity of wickedness, and their wrath began a magical cataclysm that devastated the land. When the gods came to their senses, they realized with horror what they had done and disappeared. The magical forces liberated by the immortals, however, have led to monstrous mutations in both humans and animals; and to the tears in reality through which unprecedented creatures have passed. The Empire itself has survived, although it is only a shadow of itself. We start the game as a vagrus - a leader of a caravan, who travels through still devastated and inhospitable lands in search of profit.
Vagrus - The Riven Realms is a RPG with elements of strategy, in which we move a caravan on the map of the world, while the clashes are fought in turn-based form.
An important element of Vagrus - The Riven Realms is the aspect of travel. We move through the destroyed Empire, transporting goods, people and sometimes working as a mercenary. Places on our map are not marked from the very beginning - we need to discover them or hear about them from other travellers. If you are going on longer routes, you should remember about supplies for the expedition. Without supplies, animals and employees/slaves, we will not make it far. We must also take care of people's morale, otherwise we can expect trouble.
Our travels are guided by one goal - to get rich. We can do this in many ways. There is an extensive trade in the game, which works thanks to algorithms that calculate the current demand for goods. Cities and even entire regions can also be affected by special effects that will increase or decrease the prices of individual goods. The game also gives us the opportunity to transport travelers who will pay for our services. Nothing stands in the way of working as a mercenary and making a fortune in armed clashes. Of course, all these methods can be combined.
During your journey you will encounter events in which you can see the paper pedigree of Vagrus - The Riven Realms. As in the case of master RPGs, these stories are presented to us in text, and our task is to make the best decisions and see where our choices will lead us.
Caravan can do nothing without a crew. Companions can be divided into two categories - ordinary employees and special characters. Employees ensure that the caravan moves forward and acts as a kind of resource. However, from time to time we may come across specialists who add unique passive bonuses to our expedition and can also directly take part in the battles.
The clashes in Vagrus - The Riven Realms are turn-based. As in many other games of this type, units make their moves in an order depending on the height of their initiative. During the skirmishes we do not move freely in the arena, but here used a strategic positioning system, which we know from Darkest Dungeon. We can change the position of both our companions and enemies, which has a direct impact on the skills they can use.
Vagrus - The Riven Realms is a single player game.
