Wasteland Video Game Series
Wasteland is a series of post-apocalyptic RPGs initiated by the production of the same title, released in 1988. The item, developed by the studio Interplay Productions (later Interplay Entertainment) under the leadership of Brian Fargo, not only gave life to the brand, which after more than twenty years began to develop the team inXile Entertainment, but also laid the foundation for the cult series Fallout, Interplay's next masterpiece. Games under the banner of Wasteland have made their mark on both personal computers and consoles.
First Wasteland debuted in 1988 on Apple II computers, and shortly thereafter lived to see conversions prepared for personal computers and Commodore 64. Although from today's perspective the graphics of this production and its sound layer can smell of mice, the title evokes appreciation due to the enormity of the possibilities offered to players. For its continuation, the latter had to wait until 2014, when the game, prepared by inXile Entertainment, was released on personal computers. Wasteland 2, which was supervised by the creator of the original - Brian Fargo. Compared to the original, the production boasted much better audiovisual design, as well as more extensive interactions with the presented world. Although the title initially came exclusively to PC, after a year it lived to see release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and three years later it came to Nintendo Switch console. Before the third installment of the series hit PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in May 2020, in late February 2020 personal computers and Microsoft's third console received a remastered version of the first installment of the series, the game Wasteland Remastered, prepared under the guidance of inXile Entertainment by the Krome Studios team. Its authors have taken on, first of all, the visuals, which received a complete refresh.
The action of the games in the series Wasteland takes place in the distant future, on the ruins of the United States, which was almost completely devastated as a result of the nuclear conflict. The surface of the entire country is covered by barren wastelands, and its inhabitants have to fight a brutal battle for survival every day, facing both hostile humans and mutated creatures. In the course of the game, we take control of a group of daredevils called the Void Guardians. As former soldiers of the American army, members of this paramilitary organization take care of order in the wilderness. While the first installment of the series, the action of which begins in 2087, takes us on a journey to the sandy state of Nevada, Wasteland 2, set fifteen years after the events of its predecessor, takes us to sandy Arizona. W Wasteland 3 we find ourselves, on the other hand, in the ice-covered state of Colorado, where, as members of Team November, we have to build a position for the Void Guardians from scratch, since no one has ever heard of them in this region.
In the games of the series Wasteland the action is presented from a bird's eye view. In each of them we are given a vast and dangerous territory, where, in addition to human settlements, among other things, the ruins of an ancient civilization are waiting to be visited. We traverse the maps on foot or, in the case of the game Wasteland 3 - also behind the controls of vehicles. During the game we carry out conversations with neutral characters (dialogues are based on the use of key words, the resource of which increases during the game), perform tasks pushing forward the plot and complete various side missions, as well as fight with enemies. Clashes take place in turn-based mode, and regardless of whether a human opponent or a mutated mastermind stands in our way, the key to success is the skillful use of the characters' equipment and a wide range of their abilities. As we progress, we develop team members, increasing their combat potential. In addition, in Wasteland 3 introduced the necessity to build a Guardian Base from scratch and its constant expansion. As a result, we gain not only a smoothly functioning operations center, but also a place where diplomacy is conducted with the various factions operating in the frozen wastelands.
As an important element of the games in the series Wasteland is freedom, individual problems here can be solved in a variety of ways. This applies both to seemingly trivial actions like opening a gate and completing individual tasks. In addition, neutral characters react to us in different ways, depending on the course of the earlier part of the conversation, the choices we made, character attributes or even the composition of the team.

The third installment in the post-apocalyptic role-playing game series, currently developed by indie studio inXile Entertainment. Wasteland 3 no longer takes place in the deserts of Arizona, but in the icy Colorado, and you play as a member of the Desert Rangers, whose team members were murdered, and he needs to build his position from scratch. The gameplay consists mostly of exploring, completing main and side quests, and fighting turn-based battles. The exploration part has been made easier by the introduction of vehicles, which also act as a portable storeroom. The combat and dialogue systems have been expanded. The Ranger's base also plays a more important role now, being the central element of the in-game world. You have to create it from scratch and properly develop it by implementing upgrades.
