An isometric action game with elements of RPGs and roguelikes, in some ways reminding of Pikmin and Overlord series. Worship has us playing as a cultist, travelling the open world, gathering worshippers and eliminating enemies of our faith. The game allows to play solo or in coop mode.
Over the years, the Pikmin series has seen a variety of imitators, trying to transfer its gameplay scheme to completely different realities. Chasing Rats Studio decided to mark their presence in this branch of the industry by creating Worship, an action game with RPG, strategy and roguelike elements. In the game we play as a cultist gathering followers and trying to bring about the end of the world. The concept of this project was so appealing to players that it achieved great success on Kickstarter.
In Worship we watch events in an isometric view.
We start the game by choosing the deity we worship. The one we choose affects the style of play and available options.
During the game, we explore an open world with procedurally generated elements, and our primary goal is to spread our faith among its inhabitants and deal with its enemies. There is no shortage of opponents here. When exploring the game world we can encounter both furious peasants and beasts, inquisitors or finally creatures straight from nightmares.
The main way to achieve our goal is to use dark rituals. The game has implemented a system that allows us to spill blood and use it to draw various symbols corresponding to specific spells. In this way, we can interact with neutral characters and elements of the game world.
Rituals also serve us in solving environmental puzzles and discovering secrets. Moreover, they play a key role during fights with opponents. Dynamic skirmishes require not only agility and reflexes from us (we need to cast spells efficiently), but also a sense of tactics.
Although we can do many things on our own, it's worth making use of our followers. The figures following us are a kind of pawns, blindly executing our orders. They can face enemies or do other things for us and our subordinates are ready to sacrifice their lives if needed.
Another important element of the game is constructing buildings around the altar of our deity. Each of these structures provides us with various bonuses, as well as unlocks access to increasingly powerful rituals. The effectiveness of our actions reflects the level of dedication to God, and the higher it is, the greater blessings our divinity provides us.
The ultimate goal here is to gain a large enough number of followers (and thus - a large enough power) to make it possible to summon their deity to the realm of mortals and bring destruction to their world.
It is possible to play Worship alone or in cooperative mode over the Internet (for up to 4 people).
The graphic design of Worship is maintained in a cartoon style and mainly monochromatic color scheme. Shades of gray are "broken" by colorful accents, primarily the color red.
