Monster Hunter World: How to extract more materials from Great Beasts?
Last update:
The later in the game you are, the more time you will have to spend "farming" the monsters. More powerful weapons and armors require a lot of materials. Some unique items that the bests drop have a very low occurrence rate, which further increases the amount of times you have to kill the given monster. However, there's a solution that should make things a bit easier - you just have to unlock the Plunderblade for your Palico.

In order to get that weapon, you need to go to the place indicated on the screenshot above (that's in the Rotten Vale). Odogaron brings Legiana's corpse here every once in a while. Unfortunately it's a random event, so you have to be patient. Once the corpse is here, a Palico will soon be lured in.

Approach the creature and it will start running - follow it (use the lighting bugs to trace it) until the creature hits a dead end - it will climb onto some tall rocks, where you won't be able to reach him. Select rotten meat from the equipment and leave it on the ground below the rock. More Palicos will arrive; a short cut-scene will commence, and you will get new equipment for your companion - the Plunderblade.
All you have to do now is equip your companion with the gadget and go hunting. During combat, Palico will be flinging the blade at enemies, making them drop more materials. If you're lucky, a monster will run away leaving behind 4 or 5 pieces of different materials. Just pick them up and chase the monster down.
The Plunderblade can let you cut down the time needed to collect the required materials by half. During combat, you can gather a bunch of additional horns, hides, etc. which will allow you to save loads of time!
