Just over two weeks to go until the deadline for the Stop Killing Games campaign to hit one million signatures. It technically already crossed that mark, but turns out not all signatures may be valid, so the battle is still on. The initiative just got a big boost, with the Vice President of the European Parliament showing support and bringing even more attention to the cause.

Vice President of European Parliament backs Stop Killing Games

A few weeks ago, the Stop Killing Games (SKG) campaign appeared to be on the brink of failure, with some even debating whether Pirate Software had played a role in its downfall. However, the situation shifted as more YouTubers began discussing the issue, helping the campaign reach the one million signature milestone. As the topic gained traction, game publishers responded with a statement explaining why, from their perspective, the campaign’s demands are not valid.

If you want to sign the Stop Killing Games initiative, refer to the campaign’s page.

In his latest video, Ross Scott said the next big step for SKG is to start reaching out to members of the European Parliament. And it looks like the message got through. Nicolae Stefanuta, the Vice President of the European Parliament, has taken notice.

I stand with the people who started this citizen initiative. I signed and will continue to help them. A game, once sold, belongs to the customer, not the company.

This clearly shows there are people in power paying attention to the project. The issue is gaining momentum and gradually becoming something politicians are starting to take seriously. While it’s still uncertain if the petition will be accepted by the European Parliament, and the support of one politician doesn’t guarantee the outcome, it does suggest the cause won’t be ignored.

Been with gamepressure.com since 2019, mostly writing game guides but you can also find me geeking out about LEGO (huge collection, btw). Love RPGs and classic RTSs, also adore quirky indie games. Even with a ton of games, sometimes I just gotta fire up Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, KOTOR, or Baldur's Gate 2 (Shadows of Amn, the OG, not that Throne of Bhaal stuff). When I'm not gaming, I'm probably painting miniatures or admiring my collection of retro consoles.
