Void War, the first game of independent studio Tundra, will be released later in May. The space strategy is getting a lot of interest.
If you're a fan of FTL: Faster Than Light and love figuring out how to save a crumbling ship with the last crew member on board, I've got some good news for you. The independent studio Tundra confirmed that Void War, a brutal science fiction strategy game with roguelike elements, will be released on PC on May 30th this year. In the game, we will guide a spaceship to the "heart of a dying empire."
We will start Void War by choosing and personalizing our commander; then, together with the crew, we will take control of an ancient spaceship. The goal of our journey will be the mythical Crypt of Souls, for which we will traverse a dangerous, dark galaxy. During this time, we will face cultists, pirates, or deserters from the empire's army.
In Void War, we'll be watching the action from a top-down perspective, mostly seeing inside our ship and the crew's actions. From this perspective, we will issue orders and operate the ship's subsystems in real time, including making repairs, boarding, or designating targets for cannons (such as life support systems, etc.). It's worth noting that our opponents will also undertake similar maneuvers, aiming at key elements of our ship.
Apart from fighting, we can also add new weapons or upgrade our ship with additional modules. We will also recruit extra crew members and assign them equipment to increase their chances of survival. The game is expected to be full of random events, which should ensure its high replayability. I will also mention that the title is characterized by a visual design maintained in a techno-gothic pixel art style.
Void War is set to launch at the end of May, but players are already showing great interest in the title. According to data from SteamDB, over 6,300 people are following this game.
The possibility to play this title a bit earlier definitely helped with that. The devs of Void War released the alpha version through itch.io in October 2024. Starting from February 4th, 2025, there's also a demo available, which you can download on Steam.
