11 Minutes of Character Creator in Baldur's Gate 3; Devs Fixated on Intimate Zones
Baldur's Gate 3 is expected to offer the best character creator in the history of the RPG genre. The multitude of choices is truly impressive.
Premiere of Baldur's Gate 3 is fast approaching. Not surprisingly, the developers of the game - Larian - are doing everything to whet the appetite of players. It must be admitted that they are doing it extremely skillfully.
- The head of the studio's art department, Alena Dubrovina, recently gave an interview to the editors of Kotaku, in which she discussed and presented the character creator featured in Baldur's Gate 3. For many people, this is a very important element of RPGs, so the developers have put a lot of thought into its design.
- As Dubrovina revealed, Larian wanted to emphasize our decisions not only by choosing a race (from among eleven available) or gender (male, female and non-binary), but also various accessories and characteristics, including jewelry, tattoos, hair and even... genitals. Interestingly, this last appearance feature will really be visible in the game, and not just in the menu, as was the case with Cyberpunk 2077.
- According to Dubrovina, this option has nothing to do with the presence of intimate scenes, and is due to the fact that the team wanted to include underwear in the game as part of the equipment that can be customized and worn. And because the developers put so much effort into this piece of clothing, they began to wonder what would happen if the player took it off.
"At first we thought: 'You know, maybe nothing will happen. Maybe we'll put another mesh of underwear under it. Who cares? But then we started thinking about it, talking about it, and realized that for some players it's just another way to express their identity,'" she explained.
- It is worth adding that unlike other RPGs, such as Skyrim, in Baldur's Gate 3 we will not see sliders for precise personalization. Instead, we will get ready-made models.
"My personal experience with most of them [slider-based character creators - editor's note] comes down to the fact that you customize it, it takes you a lot of time and effort, and then in the end everything looks the same anyway. We wanted to avoid that. If we were to make sliders, we would have to design something that was really unique and wouldn't look the same as in other games," Dubrovina explained.

Full version of Baldur's Gate 3 will be released on August 3 on PC. PlayStation 5 console owners will have to wait until September 6.
