Ubisoft's Star Wars: Outlaws Draws Handfuls From The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi
In a recent interview, creative director of Star Wars: Outlaws talked more about the effects that will be used in the upcoming game.
It's been more than a month since Star Wars: Outlaws has been presented at the Ubisoft Forward show. Many Star Wars fans are eagerly awaiting this sandbox to traverse the galaxy in search of adventures set between episodes V and VI of the movie saga.
SFX like in 1970s
In a recent interview for the Edge magaziney, Star Wars: Outlaws creative director Julian Gerighty talked about the effects that will be used in Ubisoft's game. As it turns out, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi will have more influence on the game than in the plot.
- Gerighty revealed that the upcoming game will make use of, among other things, vignetting, i.e. underexposure of the edges of the frame, or film grain - the subtle "noise" present in an image.
- In this way, the creators want to emphasize that the action takes place between the episodes of the original trilogy, which also featured these effects.
- Gerighty said the following about the effects used: "all these things are very subtle, but they combine to give players a more cinematic experience."
Similar treatments also appeared in the original Mass Effect and indeed gave the title a certain atmosphere. However, not all players are fans of such solutions and often look for ways to disable them (e.g. No Vignette Mod for RDR2). Those who don't like such treatments can also count on the fact that in Outlaws they will be optional.
Ubisoft thanked for the positive reception of the game
During Ubisoft Forward we saw more than ten minutes of gameplay, which was mostly positively received by viewers. The developers have now thanked the community for the overwhelming support.
"More than a month ago we revealed Star Wars: Outlaws and we would like to express our deepest gratitude for the incredible support following this world premiere. We have received many gifts from you in the form of amazing fanart, videos and more," reads the game's official website.
Star Wars: Outlaws will debut on the market in 2024 - Ubisoft has not yet revealed a specific release date. The title will hit PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
