Fantasy Life i The Girl Who Steals Time officially dropped yesterday, and it’s already pulling in a huge number of players. Even with a few hiccups (like crashes, fatal errors, or trouble launching the game) fans are diving headfirst into this new adventure from the creators of Ni no Kuni. The game’s packed with a massive open world, tons of stuff to do, and even a co-op mode to enjoy with friends. But while people are getting lost in all the fun, there’s another issue popping up. If you’ve been trying to redeem some gift codes you found online and they’re not working, here’s what’s going on.
Those codes from a Reddit post (which was taken down pretty quickly) for Fantasy Life i actually came from a datamine, meaning someone dug through the game files and found them before they were meant to be released. Because of that, the devs over at Level 5 probably decided to disable them altogether. It’s not a bug, region lock, or anything, you’re not doing anything wrong. The codes just aren’t active anymore.
That said, if you grabbed the Deluxe Edition of Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time and jumped into the game early (before May 21) and tried to redeem those gift code, you probably noticed that they were still working. So if you used them during that early access window, congrats, you likely scored some sweet bonus items before the devs pulled the plug on those. A bunch of players were pretty happy they managed to use the codes before they got disabled. But here’s the thing – there’s a small chance there could be some consequences down the line.
Nothing’s been confirmed, but since the codes were technically leaked, it’s possible the devs might take some kind of action later. And we’re not just talking minor things, they could go as far as suspending accounts or even rolling back character progress.
It might feel a bit harsh, especially since a lot of people probably had no idea the codes weren’t meant to be out there. Most of them just saw gift codes online and figured they were fair game. Still, that’s the reality of the situation, and it’s something to keep in mind if you used any of those codes.
Because of this situation, some players who redeemed the leaked freebies are now deleting their save files and starting over from scratch. But it’s probably best to just wait and see what the dev team says officially before taking any drastic steps.

Been with gamepressure.com since 2019, mostly writing game guides but you can also find me geeking out about LEGO (huge collection, btw). Love RPGs and classic RTSs, also adore quirky indie games. Even with a ton of games, sometimes I just gotta fire up Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, KOTOR, or Baldur's Gate 2 (Shadows of Amn, the OG, not that Throne of Bhaal stuff). When I'm not gaming, I'm probably painting miniatures or admiring my collection of retro consoles.
