Do I need to watch Seasons 1 to 3 of True Detective to understand Season 4?
The fourth season of the True Detective series will soon arrive on the HBO Max platform. To understand the installment with Jodie Foster, do you need knowledge of the previous parts of the series? We come with the answer.
One of the greatest crime series in history premiered on HBO almost a decade ago, on January 12, 2014. Nic Pizzolatto's Detective epitomized what we referred to as high-quality television. The all-star cast - Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson - appeared in an ambitious, captivating, and intriguing crime drama, which inspired master's theses in the subsequent years. Other intrigued viewers followed the philosophical themes and were impressed by the well-crafted characters.
Ten years after this enormous artistic success, the fourth season of True Detective will premiere on the Max platform. However, to understand Night Country, do we need to know the previous series? Definitely not. True Detective is an anthology, which means that all seasons present a separate stories.
There are still a few days left until the premiere of the latest season - Night Country will premier on January 14 - and it's definitely worth taking advantage of them to refresh your memory - or watch for the first time - at least the episodes from 2014. Minor connections between the first and fourth series are expected to be included, even though familiarity with this season isn't necessary to enjoy the screening of the latest episodes.
The second and third installments didn't receive a sensational reception from critics, but that doesn't mean they aren't worth considering. The excellent cast, including Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams, and Mahershala Ali, makes it worth watching.
