You can find more helpful information in our guide:
You will acquire a very useful, sleep-inducing sniper rifle shortly after arriving in Australia. To get the blueprints needed for its production, you need to do a simple job for The Lone Commander who lives near the government base.
The Tranq Sniper Rifle allows the effective elimination of human opponents from very long distances. Its major downside is the complete lack of silencer. However, if you choose the right place to attack, you can easily take out the alerted enemies before they even get close to you. The Tranq Sniper Rifle is worth using at the beginning of the fight to quickly knock out a few enemies. Just remember, this weapon only works on humans, and armored enemies might need more than one shot to take down.
You will gain access to this universal weapon after connecting the Pizza Chef to the Chiral Network. Furthermore, if you develop a relationship with him to a 3-star level, you will receive plans for an enhanced version of the rifle (Lv 2).
The Machine Gun offers great accuracy at medium range, which, combined with substantial damage and a large magazine, makes this weapon an ideal tool for long, exhausting battles, e.g., with bosses. The fact that the rifle can damage any type of enemy makes it a weapon worth having, even if you're not sure what threats you might encounter. Using the Machine Gun, Sam moves quite slowly, but it's a small price to pay for versatility and efficiency.
Tool perfect for players who prefer a quiet approach to combat. It silently shoots out a rope that ties up enemies without attracting the attention of the remaining opponents. Effective even at medium range, it also handles BTs very well.
You will receive an upgraded version of the basic launcher for achieving 4 connection stars with the Inventor living on the island. It's worth doing because the Bola Stun Gun is even more effective against human enemies, and it also deals damage to mechs, making it a versatile weapon.

I will also mention a seemingly less useful weapon that becomes very handy later in the game. The Maser gun is a weapon that Sam automatically receives as one of the first weapons. While it might be useful in the early hours of the game, it quickly becomes insufficient due to its short range and long shot loading time. Other options, like the Tranq Sniper Rifle or the Bola Stun Gun, will be more versatile.
The situation changes in the later stage of the game when the whole map is swarming with mechs - more dangerous and significantly more durable than humans. It's tough to take them down quietly because they can handle a lot of damage and sleep-inducing weapons don't work on them. Then it's worth dusting off the Maser gun. It's one of the best weapons for quietly taking out mechs. A single shot will instantly fry the enemy robot, eliminating it without warning the remaining opponents.
The complete opposite of the previous weapon, it's a launcher that makes a lot of noise and shoots exploding projectiles. The Grenade Launcher will prove useful in confrontations with any type of enemy, but in our opinion, it is best to use it when encountering BTs, especially the larger ones.
Grenades deal massive damage upon impact, which will be crucial in battles against tougher enemies. However, be careful not to stand too close. The force of the explosion can damage both you and your delivery.
The best weapon is the one you have on hand, and you can pretty much count on a boomerang in any situation. Powered by Sam's blood, it is perfect for quietly eliminating lone BT. Once thrown, it returns directly to the hands of the main character, which means that you will basically never run out of ammunition... unless you don't have enough blood bags with you.
