BF 2042 Back on Track; Class System Now Available

Battlefield 2042 is undergoing sweeping changes. Electronic Arts has introduced a character class system into the game, highly-anticipated by the players, but not yet working as expected.

The long-awaited moment has finally arrived. The latest update to Battlefield 2042 exchanges the existing system of specialists for four character classes familiar to fans of the series.

Battlefield 2042 - the return of four character classes

Described two weeks ago, update 3.2 is now available for download. It introduces a number of big changes, including modified properties of existing specialists and grouping them in four character classes, familiar to long-time fans.

  • Assault - has perks for swift assault on the enemy and demolition equipment. Specialists belonging to this class are: Mackay, Dozer, Sundance and Zain.
  • Engineer - has equipment for repairing machinery and strengthening defensive positions. This class includes three characters: Boris, Crawford and Fox.
  • Support - his role is to supply allies with ammunition and equipment, as well as to act as a medic (treating and resuscitating comrades). The list includes: Falck, Angel and Irish.
  • Recon - specializes in ranged combat (using a sniper rifle) or in quietly moving behind the enemies back (using signal disruptors or mobile revival points). Soldiers of this class are: Paik, Casper and Rao.

It's worth noting that the division into four classes is only to help get an idea of the advantages and disadvantages of each specialist, because invariably our appearance and equipment will depend on this choice. Main and sidearms are not assigned to any class. We won't find here a rigid division like in Battlefield 4. More information about classes can be found on the game's official website.

Problems and pains of update 3.2

Electronic Arts announced on Twitter that the studio is ready to receive feedback from players about possible technical problems and bugs that may plague the Battlefield 2042 after the update rolls out.

Players were quick to seize the opportunity. In the comments they mention, for example, the inability to load the game or DirectX drivers crashing. However, the most frequently repeated issue is the change in control layout on consoles. Not long after, the developer stated that the latest patch actually changes the default button mapping - but it can be adjusted in the options menu.

The publication of the update caused a a sudden jump in players numbers - yesterday's activity record was nearly 16,000 concurrent players, while recently their number oscillated around 10,000.

Small changes and new features

Update 3.2, in addition to character classes, also adds some fresh content. The map called Split has been slightly overhauled, the M39 EMR, MTAR-21 and PP-2000 weapons have been moved from Portal mode to 128-player modes, new weapon modifications have been added, as well as exclusive additions for season pass owners. A full description of the changes included in the patch can be found here.
