The weekend’s here again, which means it’s time for new Buzzwords in Cookie Jam. After dealing with some seriously tricky ones like “raw fish tossed in sauce,” “covered in an irritating oil when shelled,” and “type of tree or syrup,” you’d think things might ease up a bit, but nope. Then came “California orange stone fruit,” “round Chinese festive pastries,” and the big one: “grain-like pasta from North Africa.” These questions really aren’t giving us a break, right? So if you’re stuck on “painful when ingested,” don’t worry – here’s the answer for you.
I won’t keep you hanging any longer, here’s the answer you’ve been looking for:
Well, a bunch of things can be painful to eat (spicy foods, sharp stuff like popcorn kernels) but none of those really worked for a 6-letter word. So the clear answer had to be “poison.”
Poison hurts when you ingest it because it messes with your body big time, damaging tissues, irritating your insides, triggering pain, and throwing your whole system out of whack. It's the body’s way of screaming: “Get this out of me now!”
What’s kind of funny though is that some regular foods can feel almost like poison for certain people. Like pineapple, it has bromelain, which can sting your mouth. Or kiwi, which can irritate our mouth and throat. Even super acidic things like lemons or vinegar can give off that “why am I eating this?” vibe. But we still eat them anyway… even when they bite back a little.
Alright, moving on to the next Buzzword in Cookie Jam: “crocus spice.” Got the answer already, or need a little help?

Been with gamepressure.com since 2019, mostly writing game guides but you can also find me geeking out about LEGO (huge collection, btw). Love RPGs and classic RTSs, also adore quirky indie games. Even with a ton of games, sometimes I just gotta fire up Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, KOTOR, or Baldur's Gate 2 (Shadows of Amn, the OG, not that Throne of Bhaal stuff). When I'm not gaming, I'm probably painting miniatures or admiring my collection of retro consoles.
