Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is just getting started. The developers of this year's best-rated game have boasted that they have crossed the very high sales threshold much earlier than they expected. Sandfall Interactive has no small reason to be proud.
The sales success of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 just pushed the number of concurrent players on Steam over 100,000 for the first time since its release. Currently, 108,883 people are playing this title on the Valve platform. In three days the game received over 16,000 reviews, of which 92% are positive.
Sandfall Interactive boasted about another milestone achieved by Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. A million copies of the game were sold three days after the launch.
Amazing Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 doesn't slow down. Just a day after its release, the French studio Sandfall Interactive announced that their debut game had already sold over 500,000 copies. The devs shared this great news on the game's official profile on X:
With a price of $50 per unit, estimated revenues could be around $25 million, according to calculations by Insider-Gaming. That's an impressive result for a small team of just 30 people.
Parallel to the sales success, Clair Obscur also achieves great results on Steam. As I'm writing this, the game has 71,136 players online at the same time and has received 94% positive reviews out of over 5,300.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is currently considered the best-rated game of 2025 according to Metacritic (even surpassing the highly appreciated Blue Prince). The average ratings of the game are:
Reviewers around the world praise the game for its unique graphic style inspired by the French Belle Époque, great story, thoughtful and innovative combat system, and outstanding sound design. Sandfall Interactive has created something truly unique.
The shadow drop of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, which took place a few days ago, could initially effectively divert some players' attention from other titles released in April, including Clair Obscur. The creators of Oblivion, Bethesda, and Obsidian Entertainment (Avowed, Fallout: New Vegas) decided to congratulate Sandfall Interactive by sharing cute graphics on X, inspired by their own games and a French hit. These weren't exactly "congratulations" for surpassing half a million copies sold (the posts appeared before this happened), but rather a nice gesture of support.
