CoD Cold War Will Use Up 37% of Xbox Series S' Storage

We've learned the size of the console versions of Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War. The game will consume 37% of free storage space offered by Xbox Series S.

Last week, the final system requirements of the PC version of Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War caused a lot of excitement, as it turned out that the game can take up to 250 GB on a hard drive. This will only apply to those who want to play at the highest level of detail and use ray tracing, but the rest of the players will still have to provide 175 GB of free space. Now, we have learned how voracious the console versions will be in this respect.

Size of the console versions of COD: Cold War

  1. PlayStation 4: 95 GB
  2. PlayStation 5: 133 GB
  3. Xbox One: 93 GB
  4. Xbox Series X/S: 136 GB

As you can see, the console versions will not take up as much space as the PC edition. Still, over 130 GB on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S is a cause for concern. This is only the starting value, which will be increased by the updates.

The problem lies in the modest hard drives offered by next-gen hardware. The worst situation will be for Xbox Series S owners, who will receive only 364 GB for games and apps. So it will take just two frequently updated games, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War for them to start run out of free space.

The other consoles will be more generous in this respect. For PlayStation 5, there are reports of 664GB of free space, and the Xbox Series X will provide 802GB. However, neither of these figures looks particularly impressive. Even if a launch title such as the new COD, , takes up over 130GB, it makes you scared to think about the size of games in a few years.

It's worth adding that Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War will enable us to install only part of the content, e.g. only the story campaign or just the multiplayer. We think that such solutions will quickly become a standard. Also vendors of additional storage drives (all next-gen consoles will have appropriate slots, although Microsoft's hardware will support only dedicated devices of this type) may look forward to somehing good.

Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War will debut on November 13, on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, as well as PlayStation 4 and 5.
