Although the "full disclosure" of the upcoming Call of Duty, subtitled Modern Warfare 3, will take place tomorrow, already today we learned some information about the work of Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games.

The upcoming debut of MW3 is "a special moment" for those responsible for Call of Duty , because for the first time in the history of the series this installment will be a direct continuation of the story told in the previous year (until now, successive games from a given sub-cycle were released alternately, e.g. every two years).

New CoD however, is a continuation not only of the story, but also, so to speak, of the gameplay and "setting" introduced with the rebooted Modern Warfare 2.

Modern Warfare 2.5?

Although Modern Warfare 3, as the developers argue, "represents an epic experience that stands out in terms of unique gameplay and innovation," some game systems will be carried over directly from last year's MW2. Upcoming Call of Duty is expected to offer:

  • Carry Forward feature, which will enable MW3 players o use equipment and weapon upgrades unlocked in last year's installment;
  • Call of Duty HQ, which will allow for access to previous installments of the Modern Warfare and Warzone 2.0 subseries from a single spot;
  • revamped perk, movement and vest systems;
  • modified weapon customization at Gunsmith's, which will be enhanced with "aftermarket parts";
  • the largest Zombie mode to date;
  • improved systems that work against cheaters and toxic players.

We are also soon expected to learn the schedule for the release of additional seasonal content, which will hit the game following its release on November 10.

Finally, I will point out that tomorrow's presentation of Modern Warfare 3 is linked to a timed event called Shadow Siege, which will launch in Warzone 2.0 that day at 7:30 p.m. CET.
