Crystal Dynamics Reveals Its Plans for Tomb Raider

Tomb Raider series celebrates its 25th birthday this year. Crystal Dynamics, the studio currently responsible for the development of the franchise, shared its vision for the future. There are plans to merge the new trilogy and the old installments.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. Tomb Raider series is celebrating 25th anniversary;
  2. Crystal Dynamics plans to celebrate the anniversary with due respecy, although it notes that it will not announce a new game;
  3. Work is underway on combining the new trilogy with the old instalments of Lara Croft's adventures.

Crystal Dynamics, the studio responsible for the latest trilogy in the Tomb Raider series, is facing quite a challenge. On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the series starring Lara Croft, the devs prepared a video material announcing the future of the franchise.

Apart from the information about the animation, which is created in cooperation with Netflix, the studio has not yet revealed ale the surprises that are in store. It will certainly not be an announcement of a new installment. The team is currently working on sensibly combining the new Lara Croft trilogy and the older instalments, most of which were created by Core Design.

Will Kerslake at Crystal Dynamics, who is responsible for the Tomb Raider franchise, admitted that it's not easy to bring the two series together, but his team will do everything they can to make sure they're up to the task.

"We envision the future of Tomb Raider unfolding after these established adventures, telling stories that build upon the breadth of both Core Design’s and Crystal Dynamics’ games, working to unify these timelines."

The 25th anniversary celebration of the Tomb Raider franchise will officially launch on February 1, 2021. Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have prepared a few surprises for us. Among them, there will be no announcement of a new game, as highlighted in the video above.

We can only keep our fingers crossed for Lara's bright future and ask you about your favourite instalment of the Tomb Raider series. Which one do you choose?
